Empowering Neurodivergent Children & Their Families – Through Lived Experience and Professional Expertise

I am a qualified Social Worker and Developmental Educator with a Masters in Autism. I am also AuDHD and a parent to AuDHD children. This lived and professional experience gives me a deep understanding of the unique strengths, challenges, and realities of raising and being part of a neurodivergent family.
Holding both professional expertise and lived experience allows me to approach my work with compassion, affirmation, and a genuine appreciation of the everyday triumphs and barriers neurodivergent families navigate. Like many parents, my own diagnostic journey began while advocating for my children and seeking to understand the challenges they were facing. As my knowledge of autism deepened, so too did my commitment to creating inclusive, individualised, and neuroaffirming pathways for children to build their capacity.
As a SpectMum, I quickly learned how often I needed to amplify my children’s voices in spaces that did not fully hear or understand them. Navigating complex systems and experiences of exclusion highlighted a significant gap in the professional landscape — a lack of services that view autism as a difference to be understood and supported, rather than solely a disability to be managed.
In response, I created SpectMum — a service dedicated to strengthening the capacity of fellow SpectMums and empowering them to keep their child’s voice at the centre of every decision. By championing inclusion, equity, and neuroaffirming practice, SpectMum strives to ensure that every child has the opportunity to live a meaningful and fulfilling life.
